LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - The first Donna Andrews Invitational begins a three-day run this Sunday at Boonsboro Country Club in Lynchburg, where Andrews grew up playing golf.

The 54-hole women's amateur event will feature many of the top golfers on the East Coast, spectators are welcome, the course is in great shape.

Andrews won six times on the LPGA Tour and is the first female inducted into the Virginia State Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Donna Andrews, 6-TIME WINNER ON LPGA TOUR, said "There are not a lot of opportunities for young women to play in great women's golf tournaments, so to be able to put my name on one and draw some of the best women golfers from the East Coast here to Boonsboro Country Club, it's going to be great."

Steve Washburn, CO-TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR W/BECKY HAWKINS, said "After the Fox Puss two years ago, my daughter and I were on the 18th green and she asked me, she's a golfer, she asked me 'Dad, why isn't there a women's version of this?' I said I don't know, I'll go ask. And I'm on the golf committee here and I took it to the board. That was kind of the inception, I have to give my daughter Danielle a lot of credit for that."
